Top moves forward into middle of roll bar rather than up over

Looking for advice on where to start problem solving. Have done a search and can't seem to find this exact problem. I have a 1997 Boxster, have replace red ended push rods with the newer white ones last year. Had my top down for over a week and when I went to raise it the clamshelll went up fine but the top seemed to want to go forward into the middle of the roll bar rather than up over it. The white ended push rods are in place and the clamshell seems to work fine. Is this a cable problem or does it sound like something else? Thanks in advance for your advice?

The very first thing you need to do is see the mechanisms. Because your top will not go into the service position (closed but for 12 inches), you'll have to reach down to the connecting rods on either side of the top behind the c pillars and pop one end off (ball and socket).

Then you can manually put the top wherever you want. There 2 cables, one on either side that hold the back of the top down. Pop these off at there source (bal & socket) and you can raise the back of the top up. There you'll find a view of everything..Look for obvious first.

You could really use a manual because my directions aren't very descriptive. Also do a search here or on Renntech, one has a whole section devoted to the subject.

Let us know what you find.

Regards, PK

Looks like the clamshell pivot pint is missing a clip that holds it in place when the top is operated. Not sure if that would cause the top to press forward rather than up but I will replace the clip and see if there is any change in operation. Everything else looks to be ok, although it is difficult to see without the top raaising up more than a foot or so.

Easy fix! The clip was not the problem, but caused me to notice that the top release hook was catching in the storage compartment area. Once I attached the storage area piece the way it belonged the top hook did not catch and the top went up fine. Bottom line is I guess I should have looked all over rather than assume it ewas in the mechanical workings of the top! Good thing as I had to raise the top as we saw rain for the first time in a month.
