1999 996nC2 - Strange event on start up

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Started my car yesterday and the idle went to 2000 rpm. It stayed there...I flicked the throttle it it still wouldn't budge from 2k. Then it started surging from 1000 to 1500 rpm over and over.... I pulled it out of the driveway thought it might clear up if I got the revs up. It didn't.

I went back home and cleaned the MAF and the throttle body and butterfly.

I started it up and it still surged from 1000 to 1500 over and over....

I went out and drove it again and went through the gears at higher revs. Then it stopped......................... Everything was normal. :clapping:

Any idea what causes this? I recall another post a while ago with someone complaining of the same problem.

Would appreciate any feedback.

By the way, I have a stock air box and filter so it's not oil fouling the MAF.

Thanks in advance

Phillipj

I was having this problem with intermittent high idle speeds. I had a cracked oil filler tube, and it was occasionally sucking air in through there. Might check there and other places where it could suck in extra air.
