Can't shift the tiptronic shifter when park

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 1999 Boxster with tiptronic transmission.

When I park with the engine running, I can't not move the shifter from "P" to "D".

I can't even push the shifter's button down to shift.

If I turn the key a little bit in the ignition, switch, then I can push down the shifter button and move the shifter

from "P" to "D".

Right now, before I start the engine, I alway try to turn the key a little bit, I then push down the shifter button,

start the engine and move the shifter to drive.

What's the problem with the shifter? I changed the ignition switch but it doesn't fix the problem.

Any help is greatly apprecaited.

Steve

The shifter needs a sign ( current ) from the ignition switch via the brake pedal switch to unlock. Check the ignition switch again ( removed from the lock and activated with a flat screwdriver ) and the brake switch as well.

(Wams - 09/08/2008) Interesting enough, same happened with my 2002 Boxster, besides the radio would not turn on or the lights and wipers would not work. The local Porsche dealer recommended that the ignition switch required replacement. After the replacement, most works fine. However, the dealer's shop messed up the gas tank lid lock up mechanism. I need to take the car back to have them fix this new problem.
