CV Joint Transmission Flange

Recommended Posts

In the process of installing a Quaife differential the shop who did the work switched my later model joint flanges for the early style for correct fitment. While inspecting the car before heading to the track I find the driver side axle not seated completely into the transmission and a small leak from the area. I order a new C-clip for the axle and re-install pretty much hoping that will be the end of it but the C-clip wants to engage at a point too far out for the seal to be positioned correctly. The shop who did the work is no longer around and I have never had a problem with the trans/differential in over a year the Quaife has been installed for but I want to get this sorted. The passenger side joint flange looks like it works great and is correctly positioned and is solidly engaged with the C-clip retainer.

Basically now I am thinking the driver side axle might have to be switched back to the later style. Does anyone know the difference between the two? Or am I just going to need to push the axle into the transmission harder to get the C-Clip to engage?

Early style part # 996 332 209 00 which is up to 2001

Late style part # 996 332 209 50

The only marking on my existing flange are 28270 16002 AUN

Wish I had my late style flanges sitting around as I would give them a try.

Looks like the early flange is the correct one for the Quaife... All it needed was a little more persuasion for the C-clip to seat. I measured it out it so I knew at that point it should fit, all I needed was a bigger hammer.
