Illumination wire when headlights on

Recommended Posts

I have a 1998 boxster and have replace the stereo with an aftermarket one.

What I'm trying to do is get the illumination of the buttons working on my aftermarket unit by finding the appropriate wire on my boxster. I want when I switch the headlights on for the head unit to illuminate in the same way that all the other buttons (eg cigarette lighter, top toggle, windows buttons) light up.

I have attached some circuit diagrams if people can translate for me which wire to use.

I was going to tap into the cigarette lighter light but don't understand how the circuit works? Is it a closed loop? Do I have to ground it? Which wire cause the illumination?
