Need Help - Shifter Problems

Recently my shifter feels extra notchy. While I can get into any gear, the shifts meet with resistance...almost like hitting something solid. No it's not the gates. And there's no grinding. And the car's not cold. The car (997 GT3RS) has 22k miles so it's not new car notchiness.

the 2>3 and 3>4 shifts feel particularly bad. What could be the cause and how best to fix it?

Many thanks...

Bare with me :)

How does the clutch pedal feel?

B

Glad you asked that. There's a vibration when I put my foot on the clutch pedal only when the car is moving and RPMs in the 4-6k range. Otherwise, the clutch pedal feels and works just fine.

Another thing. Sometimes when the car is parked the shifter is "jammed" or stuck in gear (1st). It releases if I start the engine while car is still in gear but of course with the clutch in.

Thoughts as to what could be wrong???

The original shifting issues, i.e. extra notchiness, has now been fixed. Dealer adjusted the shifter cables, topped off the trans fluid, and bled the clutch. So that's taken care of.

However, the shifter jamming and clutch pedal vibrations still need resolution.

Thanks...

I need some more time to think about it. Thanks for the update on what has been done so far :) The clutch vibration is a new one for me, but my network of race and factory techs will *probably* yield an answer for you :)

Give me a day or so.

First thoughts are: Clutch

Bobby,

without giving me your address, what city are you located in?

Brad, I'm in Princeton, NJ.

Also, it's not the clutch. That's what we thought. And I therefore put in a brand new clutch, flywheel. etc...all OEM parts of course.

I'm going to be in a shop doing Porsche work near the Meadowlands March 27-28-29. Is that close to you? I'm being flown in to build a race car that weekend. I'd like to go for a ride or drive it down the street.

Did the dealer do the clutch?

I'd have a hard time believing something was wrong with the tranny this early in its life (which is why Clutch came to mind first) Something as simple as forgetting to put high temp grease on the input shaft of the tranny, will cause the disc to hang up on the splines as you engage and disengage the clutch :(

I'll know more tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm in San Diego tomorrow gutting yet a another Porsche for a race car build.
