Cam Cover Sealant

Recommended Posts

I choose Loctite 518. Its by far the best sealant I have experienced for the cam covers to date, including the Porsche sealant.

We use 518 at work for sealing flanges on our hydraulic press. Good stuff, never thought of using it..:)

sorry I cannot add any input, but this sounds like a good opportunity for a DIY writeup (fixing cam cover leaks, correct?), unless someone's already done one that I've not found. but don't worry, man, I know you've got your hands full on the new ride and will probably have your hands full if you're doing this DIY!

What can I use for Cam cover sealant?

Manual Says loctite 5900 or 3 bond 1209

I ordered a bunch of parts from Sunset and forgot the sealant.

Can a good RTV be used instead?

Remember that you will need a special Porsche tool if you remove the cam covers. If you don't HAVE the tool DO NOT REMOVE THE COVERS! Sometimes you can just remove the bolts(one at a time) and re- seal those and this will cure your problem...

This subject will be the topic of one of my instructional videos. The whole process, start to finish.

Made the special tool, got the new solenoid from Sunset imports (geat service and price) and re-installed cover tonight with loctite 518.
