Has anyone done an amplifier upgrade using the stock wiring? I have installed a Kenwood DNX 5120 Double DIN nav unit using all the factory connections with preouts going to the stock amp and I need more power to drive the speakers. I would like to swap the factory amp for something more powerful and was wondering if anyone knew of harness plugs that could be used to interface and the wiring schematic to go with it. Car is a 2001 Carrera 2 with door speakers/factory amp.

Thanks, Steve

As you can tell by my sig we're 'paisans'. I have tried the search here and not much comes up, I believe Loren posted the schematics for the stereo and the amps so at least I'll be able to check the pin outs. Hi8ha, car is 2001 Carrera 2 with factory door speakers and amp.

Hi8,

Yes, I've read all those. The key to the ? was finding a suitable mate to the oem connector. In virtually all my past cars, including BMWs, someone found the connector that allowed an easy reversal back to stock if you sold the car, you wanted to change amps, etc, etc. I'vr gone so far as to bid on cheap 5 channel amps on fleabay, just to get the connector and make my own. Unfortunately, even the crappy stock amps still go for more than I want to spend for just a connector.

Steve,

If you have the same basic amp as the Boxster, then Blaupunkt does (did) make an amp with a special T-harness that used stock connections, but then of course you're limited to their amps. If you search for Blaupunkt amps like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem...em=380111164423 and find the cross cable here http://www.blaupunkt.com/us/7607792132_main.asp for a Boxster. Very elegant solution, but doesn't work with the 5 channel 996 pre-2003 "upgraded" amp, only the basic amp. BTW, what part of the country are you from. I'm originally from Westchester, NY.

I was also wondering about this,i changed out my radio to a nice pioneer unit. I have to crank the thing almost all the way to get it at a decent volume. Ive changed the dash speakers and the rear speakers, will soon be doing the door speakers and was curious the if i bought say a 6 channel amp could i just get a wire diagram of all the wires going to the stock amp and just run them to the aftermarket amp?? In my other cars amp/ground/speaker wires were much thicker then the ones on the stock porsche ones. what do you guys think?
