Press down required to close rear trunk lid on 987?

Guest

I did a search on this without finding anything. On my 986, I simply "dropped" the rear lid to close. On my 987, it will not lock with a drop or hard slam down. I have to "press" to close and lock. Is this normal? Sort of annoying with groceries in both hands.

Thanks,

05 Boxster S

I believe that is normal for both the rear and front.

Simply adjust the 2 rubber stoppers at each side equal amounts - I did that to mine and now I merely put a finger through the metal u-hook at the top/center and pull it down as I release my finger....closes without pushing down on the trunk lid.

986/987/996/997 front and rear hood should be adjusted in a way that a slight pressure is needed to close the lids, 1/avoiding rattles 2/avoiding water infiltration 3/the lids have to jump up approx. 1cm after activation of the remote or inside opening buttons.

As Bob Z says, and if necessary with the lock also. The middle of the hood front edge must lie 1 mm. deeper than the upper edge of the front bumper, same for the rear hood, middle of the rear edge must lie 1 mm. deeper than the upper edge of the fully retracted spoiler (987 new car)

Yes, this is normal. The owners manual states (p135), "Lower the lid and close it. Push the lid closed with the palm of your hand in the area of the lock. Check that the lid has correctly engaged in the lock." Note, this is the procedure for both the front AND back storage compartment lids. It's fresh in my mind because I just bought a 2005 987 myself and probably read the owners manual (available on this site in PDF format) front-to-back 10 times before I received the car in anticipation. :-)
