Hack for PCM 1 CD Drive?

Recommended Posts

Calling all Hackers !!!!

I had been trying to source porsche Nav CD's for Europe for PCM 1 for 2002 and

nothing was turning up on Ebay so I asked my Porsche dealer, only to be told that they are no longer available and that I will have to update the CD drive to 16 bit at a cost of about $1700 ( 1400 Euros)

Has any of the merry band of hackers, especially computer geniuses, considered a modification to the early drive to increase it's memory capabity to allow it to read the later 16 bit CD's, as the saying goes it can't be rocket science. ?????

Try another dealer first.

If they developed the system using maximum space allowed for on a CD when they sold it to you, it seems they never had any intention of supporting the Navigation system. Kind of a throw away item, seems to steep to throw away.

I would say the dealership has no idea what they are talking about, or they just want to sell you the newest system.

Your rich like the rest of us right!!!!

It seems that there would be a patch available through whomever makes the NAV for Porsche. I would bypass the dealer [if you have no luck.]

Go to whomever makes the Nav system and ask them.

In the old day's we could use software patches to make the computer think it was a 32 bit system when it was not.
