Swapping the instrument Cluster

Recommended Posts

I have a 2005 Cayenne v6 Tiptronic, and would really like to upgrade the instrument cluster to the Turbo version so I have the TFT screen and much better looking dials etc.

My dealer won't sell me one (or can't, I'm not sure) but I have found one that was salvaged by a dismantler from a Turbo that came to a rather sorry end. Still in perfect working order apparently.

My question really is - will it work?! I wouldn't try and install it myself, but I'd rather like to have some indication as to it's likely hood before I buy it and have it shipped to the UK.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Somebody has to be the first, why not you. On each of the forums, there have only been a few topics created about an interest in performing this swap. There have not been any completed, to my knowledge.

Give it a shot. Feel free to post any information and queries so that I and others may provide information.

Don't blame the dealership. It is likely that they do not have any factory information on this procedure. Be sure to document all the steps, with photographs as required, so that others may follow.

If you decide against attempting this upgrade, you may wish to share the used part source information with another who would like to do this in your stead.

That's very true Wingless - it's not a massivly expensive part ($750) in comparison to what I was expecting (probably becaused it's used), so I think I'll buy it and have my local garage have a look.

Worst comes to worst, I'm sure someone'll buy it off me on eBay!

I don't blame the dealer at all - they've already put a silver rear badge and turbo tail pipes on for me and have been extremely accomodating with my requests. Sadly they just didn't know where to start with this one though.

I know there is def. a part number for the cluster and I will find out what it is and post again as soon as I can.

Pics will of course be taken and posted here when It arrives.

It may not work.

The reason I'm sayng this is that the Turbo Instrument Cluster has the Boost Gauge instead of our Volt Meter, therefore the harness in the back may not be the same.

It's possible to make it work maybe, but who wants to go through all that trouble switching wire harnesses and even getting some error that even dealer will not want to fix.

I'd realy like to see it done, besides the tft even the needles are much nicer.

John Gazivoda.
