997 C4S luggage compartment access cover

Recommended Posts

There is a small storage compartment in the 997 all wheel drive luggage compartment above the Nav DVD, or the front left facing side of the trunk as one looks into it from the front of the car. This must be the 00's version of the old Carrera smuggler's box, I guess. It's where I put a small bungee cord, a micro fiber cloth, and a tube of sun screen.

Searching the MY06 manual on the term 'DVD' I came across the warning "Risk of Damage. Do not store any objects behind the access cover A." , which is what I thought was this small storage compartment. Any one have an idea why putting something in there would cause damage? Can someone help me to understand why Porsche would have what seems like a storage cubby in the trunk with no warning stickers not to use it AND a front lid to open and close on it? Seems odd.

The small little door is not strong enough to hold

your moon shine in. It would fly out and spill all over your

trunk at the first stop sign.

Paul

If it doesn't make it go faster, I wouldn't put anything in there! Cheers.

Seems more than a little odd doesn't it ? I use it for small stuff like my Porsche tire gauge (the gauge case fit's in perfectly) but I can't for the life me of think of a good reason why it's there if Porsche doesn't want you to use it. My guess is that the label is a legal disclaimer so if you put something in there and it comes out on its own and damages something inside the trunk and you want to complain to Porsche they can say they "I told you so" and tell you to pound sand.

Not even close Paulspeed. The Nav system in all wheel drive 911s is installed vertically against the trunk well face directly below the compartment. Maybe you should go back to your moonshine.
