Boxster Starting issues

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

I have a 2000 Boxster with 80K miles when ever I drive the car for a short run (like 10 -15 minutes ride ) car does not start up again but after a couple of hours it has no problem starting up. I been told to change the Mass Air flow sensor but since parts cost $600 I want to be sure that is the only things causing it and if it is can it be removed and clean some how with out causing more damage ?

Thanks in advance.

Does not sound like an air flow sensor. Might be heat related. A local independent mechanic I know had a car in his shop just like that. You could start it when it was cold and drive it, but then it would not restart.

First thought was a bad fuel pump, since this is a problem area for older cars. But it turned out to be a flaky crank positioning sensor. You need to be hooked up to a PST2/PIWIS to see what is going on with the electronics.

You might check to see if its throwing any codes(DTC's). If the car has not had the fuel filter replaced in the last 30k, you might consider doing so. Its also worth checking the fuel pressures along with the upper and lower injectors seals. I replaced the seal on our 01 at about 50k.
