Remote door locks faulty

Recommended Posts

My 98 Boxster (115K miles) driver door does not unlock remotely. The remote will lock the doors most of the time, but when I press the remote to unlock the door (or the trunk) the driver door does not unlock and there is a quick double beep. The passenger door does unlock. I can hear some clicking inside the driver door. I can unlock the door with the key.

Any idea what is wrong and if it is a DIY fixable matter?

It is correct that the key will open the door, and the inside lock button works. The remote does open the passenger door. So, you are probably correct, that the assembly needs to be replaced. It does not look easily accessible when I take the panel off, and is probably an expensive fix.

For now, I will do it the old fashioned way - use the key.

IMO, the most difficult part for this fix is removing the door panel. Once you have done that, all it takes is to pull back the membrane carefully and removing a few bolts.
