Broke something while removing the alternator...

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

My alternator was dying so after doing some research around these forums, I decided to have it rebuilt myself instead of buying a new unit. I followed some of the write ups people have on here and had a hell of a time trying to get the thing out, but its out now. Unfortunately, in the process, I snapped something and it looked like part of a coolant line (from the green fluid that came out). Its not the black line above the alternator but actually a plastic line/hose connector type piece to the right of it. I've circled the piece in the picture here. The lines are fine, its just the plastic nipple part is broken off inside of it.

My question is, do any of you know what this piece is, and can I order it separately? Also, since I lost the little bit of coolant (assuming it really is coolant) from the lines, should I do a coolant flush/refill when I replace that part? Thanks guys, I can get better pictures of the part later, I just borrowed a pic from someone elses write-up here.

BTW, you will need some long needle nose pliers to get the leveage to bend that factory hose clamp off. Also be careful in picking out the old deterioted black plastic nipple from the hose.

Awesome, thank you bmohr!!

When you replaced it, did you have to flush/refill the coolant? Thanks again!

no, one because the pressure of the coolant helped "push" out any little piece of plastic that broke off in the hose...two, i only lost a little bit of coolant and added some distilled water to make up for the 1/4 cup or so that i lost. But if you need to do what you see fit in terms of loss during break and repair and messiness of the black plastic nozzle removal.
