Hawk HP Plus Brake Pad Issue, Same pad for front and rear ?

Recommended Posts

Here is some background information.

2002 911 Turbo, I was doing a brake pad replacement on the car, and the rears were no problem. As I get to the fronts I realized, the Hawk HP Plus pads are the same for the front and rear. There is definitely a size difference with the OEM front pads and the Hawk pads. I double checked online and the part number, which is HB550N-634, are for the front. Is this the way it's suppose to be ? Anyone install HP Plus Pads on their vehicle ?

Just for info, as per repair manual the front and rear brakes are totally different. First the thickness of a new pad is different 1.34" versus 1.10" and the pad area is also not the same 24.34 sq.in versus 19.69 sq.in. There is definitively something wrong with your Hawk pads....

I have a similar issue with Hawk HPS pads for my 2008 Carrera. Hawk's Web page lists the same part number for the Carrera, the S and the Turbo. The pads arrived and they are much longer than stock. Obviously they seem to befor a Carrera S.

Anyone has resolved this issue? I now don't know what the part number is for my car.
