Preventive Maintenance

Recommended Posts

My '03 996 C2 Cab has about 45k and runs well. Have kept up with all scheduled maintenance including brake system flush every 2 yr; replaced the coolant tank cap; cleaned out the radiators before temps started rising.

Is there anything else I should consider doing? (e.g., cleaning MAF) I feel I could just as easily argue, since it's running well, leave it alone.

Clean your throttle body. You will be amazed how much grime is there. Use carb cleaner. There is a DIY in the 996 section I believe.. Your car will idle smoother.....

Hello, I am new here and as I was reading thru these there is a lot of really good info here. I saw this post and wanted to just make a note on the "Cleaning the throttle body" thing. This is very true, my bro and I were working on my car a few weeks ago (We swapped out the MAF) and then we cleaned the throttle body, and I left about about 15 minutes later, and Wow!!! What a huge difference! I called my bro on my way home and jokingly said that the "MAF" made such a huge difference. He laughed and said that the MAF may have made a bit of a difference, but the cleaning of the throttle body was mostly what helped make the difference. The car ran smoother and had more of a "bite" to it now, and I have to say, I noticed a pretty big difference!

If you can, get someone to help you out, and that way you can hold the throttle body open and you can reach in there and wipe it out with a rag, while you spray it with the carb cleaner. Good luck, after you do it, you will notice a difference.
