Hello folks..,

As a new member to the 987-1 series forum i have to ask a question....,

I sold my 1999 Boxster to a friend and my question is...

I would like to know if the 2005 and up Boxster are more reliable the old 986 1999 Boxster regarding the engine (RMS IMS) and the car in general

Thanks

Robert

:welcome::welcome::welcome:

There is a really good piece on this IMS subject in the latest issue of Excellence magazine. With Part 2 coming next. Later 986 were better, sometime in MY05 (IIRC) they got even better. Newest design said to be best, but not replaceable w/o teardown of engine.

Buy the mag! You'll thank me.

welcomeani.gif Welcome!.

I also had a 1999 986 and just bought a 2005 987 about 3 months ago. The two cars are both incredible but the 2005 is a much better driver and so far just as reliable as my 99. I never really had that many problems to begin with. The RMS on the 2005 (m96) engine were a little problamatic (per this forum) but was improved with the 2006 model year. Mine had an engine replacment with a 2006. Lots of good info here to give you more specifics...
