Bought 911 on spec.

Recommended Posts

I bought a 2003 911 6 speed, with 32k. Had new motor installed at 20k by dealership in Colorado. Clean CarFax. During transport the hood blew open and smashed the windshield and

damaged the roof. It's now at the dealership in Dallas, Texas. Before purchase the woman who owned the car told me that the bumpers had some damage and sent pictures. The damage seemed slight at the time. Long story short, insurance from the transport co. will cover the $6000. damage to the hood etc, and the dealership wants $3100. to replace and paint front and rear bumpers. Sounds high, but they all sound high. Any comments are welcome. The color of the car is midnight blue metallic with gray leather and 18" turbo wheels. I plan to sell the car when repairs are done. I'm asking for "diminished value" from their ins. co. because the "accident" will show up on next CarFax. I don't know how successful I'll be with that. I'm probably going to list the car in the mid 30's because of the low mileage and it will look like new when all the work is done. It's got Bose optional sound and power seat package.

Thanks for listening. This is the first time I've had any problem with transport. The driver said the hood latch was broken. It wasn't listed on the description sheet when the car was picked up. My guess is that the car was on front top of the transport and going through Kansas the driver sat on the key or something and opened the hood at speed, although I would think that the safety latch would hold it down at any reasonable speed.

Victor.

There is an attachment point for the towing hook behind the back license plate. So it shouldn't be a problem. In any event, I suggest printing this link and keeping it in your car:

Great information, Bill. I had a bad towing experience on my 87 cab with AAA about ten years ago and cancelled in a huff. Basically, they were dollying everything except a C4. It took me 24 hours to get my car flat-bedded one mile to my house. I could have pussed it faster.

With the 996, in which I have slightly less confidence than my previous 911s, I am going to get AAA Plus again for piece of mind- particularly now that we can show the drivers how to do their job!

Thanks again.
