2008 base audio upgrade question

Recommended Posts

I have a 2008 v6 cayenne with base audio cdr23 headunit. I am looking to upgrade to a double din headunit. I've been seaching around but cannot find a definite answer. Does the base audio have an external amp and if it does, does that mean it is MOST bus and need to be replaced too? Or does the base audio head unit(cdr23) powers all the speakers and does not have an external amp? Also, what do I need to get in order to preserve the steering wheel controls(something called CAN bus)? Hopefully some of you who had done it before can shed some lights.

In a non Bose CDR23 going by the heat-sink on the back I would guess that's the only amp but I have not worked on one.

Some of the more expensive third party units boast they can interface with the CAN bus. but it seems a stretch to me. You might be giving up on that I feel unless your going to pump a lot of money into it.

I'm in the same boat. I have '04 CayenneS with base audio system. I know that there's an Amp in the rear because I replaced one.

I'm hoping that one day I can find an upgrade with NAV and retains all steering wheel functions AND won't cause me to file for bankruptcy. :D
