Smoking Boxster 3.2S !

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody, great forum.

I'm after some advice (please). Basically a couple of months ago i brought my first ever Porsche - loved it to bits but drove it only a handfull of times dues to work. Anyway, after a few weeks of ownership the water pump failed - i had this replaced at a local indi and then left it parked up for a month because i was away.

When i eventually started the car - it was smoking like mad - i mean so bad that i found it difficult to reverse off my drive. Also CEL came on. I had the error codes read which showed a misfire from cyclinder 1. Reset code - it never came back on but the car seems to be misfiring a little.

Having searched a number of forums decided to change the AOS - to my horror found this to be clogged up with chocolate milky substance......(see photograph). After the change - started it up and it still smoked - but initially alot less - about 20% of what it did before. Checked the oil level and found that it was way to high ( i think it was overfilled from the begining.....i know i should have checked) anyway drained it - approx 11 ltrs. Refilled with 7.5lts and tried to take it for a drive - only to get to the bottom of my street where the front suspension coil spring snapped !!!!!

Now the car is sitting on my driveway - and i have run out of funds to get it repaired (for the time being).

I havent noticed any loss of coolant, there doesnt appear to be any obvious mix of oil and coolant in the coolant tank. The engine oil although dirty appeared not to be milky in any way - but does smell of fuel (or at least i think it does - and i'm no mechanic)

The smoke is white / blue-ish - none on start up - but then lots after a minute or so. Seems to vary.

Not sure it this is a head gasket job or a cracked engine (am not sure if thsoe two are one and the same ?)

Any suggestions ???? could this be a result of simple overfill of oil ? the throttle body had a fair bit of oil in it - but not the same milky stuff i found in the AOS...

Any suggestions welcomed - the car has 81K miles on it... would all these symptomsa be indicative of a head gasket / blown engine ????

Again - any suggestions or even reassurance most appreciated.....pulling my hair out, didnt have much to begin with !

Kind Regards

Sialkoti

P.S Also - pls see attached photo of smoke on turnover.

You car has been sitting and that leads to smoke. But not the second time you use the car afterwards.

Your AOS has been bad, that leads to smoke, dirty intake, dirty throttle body, fouled plugs, contaminated cats, oil covered O2 sensors, etc. That is if you are lucky and didn't experience hydrolock.

Have you looked at your anti-freeze expansion tank and its contents.

That chocolate milk you describe reeks of intermix of oil and water.

By hydro lock, the start motor can get the engine up to around 360° before the engine gets stuck by infiltrated liquid (depending the specific piston possition) Hydro lock can damage engine components as cracked liners, bent rods (when driving through deep puddles of water, a quantity can enter in to the engine via air filter) etc. Will occur occasionally during the RAC rally in the UK. This is a general description of a hydro lock. I hope it brings some clarity on the issue lock.
