Upgrade my 03 996 to 06 997 or M6

Recommended Posts

Ive got itchy feet again!!! Im thinking of selling my 2003 996 not because anything is wrong, Im just bored and buying a 2006 997s model. But then I came across a 2007 BMW M6 for less money and now I dont know what to do.

Anyone have any advise or experience as to which would be the best purchase. Cost of ownership, mechanical problems, service, tires maintance, potential resale value in 2 years etc etc etc.

Looking forward to opinions and advice.

Thanks

Wow.. 2 totally different cars. If you get M6 without a warranty you are asking for trouble. Even more so than with the 06 Porsche. But I would get a warranty on that too. The M6 has more power but the 911 beats the hell out it handling wise.

I guess you have to drive both and see which one scratches your itch. If you get the 06 911 get the "S" or "4s" with the sport chrono and sport exhaust and the 6 speed manual.. You can get a really good deal on an 06 now if you are patient.

Hard to say about resale.. But I do know that the M5 and M6 have not held their value very well. That being said who knows what will happen to early 997 's prices when the 998 comes out...

BMW and a Porsche... Totally different cars... Guess it comes down to personal taste. I personally think the M6 is an ugly car. But that's just me... I had one of the first M6's in 1988. By todays standards underpowered but that was an awesome car (until the CPU kept dying.)

The porsche is more viceral and requires more of the driver.. The BMW is more forgiving but a big heavy car. I personally like the Porsche better.

Let us know what you decide!

Phil, I agree. My wife said to me years ago when I was considering an NSX, "don't you really want to be driving a Porsche?" visceral, yes.

I was thinking about the MB SLS, but holding off any serious considerations until 2012 just to see how it shakes out.
