2004 C4S spark plugs

Can you define hesitation? Can be fuel related, electrical, weak battery etc. Bad plugs can certainly cause a hard to start condition but if they are that bad you would likely suffer other performance degradations including poor fuel economy. I would stick with the OEM plugs and there are plenty of threads on this site to help you.

Hesitation: turns over but sounds and feels like it's choking a bit before running smoothly in idle.

Not sure of your maintenance history but I would start with a good tune-up with careful attention to coil pack condition for cracks etc. Clean the MAF with MAF cleaner and go over everything with a good look at vacuum lines, hose connections etc. If the hesitation still exists then you will need someone with a durametric or PIWIS reader to start looking a little deeper.
