2000 Gemballa Cabriolet info needed

Recommended Posts

Hey gang, new guy here with a few questions about a potential purchase. My fiancee's father purchased the car and now she is considering buying it from him. Its kind of a unique car and since this seems to be the place for Porsche information, I'm here to ask for your help.

The car is a 2000 Carrera Cabriolet that was sent from the dealership showroom to Gemballa North America to have a whole bunch of work done to it. Here's a partial list of items added to the car:

- Turbo-look GTR Conversion(all metal)

- Rocker panel w/air intakes

- rear fender air intakes in metal

- Gemballa 3-piece Cup design wheels(18x8.5 and 18x11)

- lowering springs

- Gemballa Sport exhaust

- Gemballa 110mm oval exhaust tips

- front tower brace

- door sills

- steering wheel

- pedal covers

and a bunch of other little add-ons.

The car, as it sits today, has 4025 original miles!!! It has been garaged its entire life and is as flawless as the day it came out of the showroom. The car has been dealer serviced each and every year regardless of how many miles it was driven and whether it was needed or not. I have all of the local dealer service records.

I'm personally not that crazy about the car, but she really likes the look as well as how it drives. She will more than likely buy it from him when the weather finally warms up here in PA. My question for you guys is what is it worth??? Its a one-of-a-kind vehicle in perfect condition, so determining a value is going to be subjective, but I need to get some kind of idea. If she buys it, we will probably keep it forever, so reselling it isn't a consideration. let me know what you think.

Thank-You for looking/reading and I look forward to reading your expertise and wisdom.

Dan

Unfortunately 996 MKIs haven't been doing so well in the resale area. A 996 cab will realistically list for 15K - 35K.

Your car is not typical however.

- The ultra low mileage may appeal to a collector (not sure how many 996 collectors there are though...). As a car to drive it doesn't add a lot of value though. A car with too few miles can be problematic.

- The body kit and other mods are neat (I like them anyway). Doesn't sound like it's an actual Gemballa car(?) That would add a premium. Otherwise it's like any other body kit.

Ultimately it's worth what someone's willing to pay for it. If *I* were in the market (I'm not) I would probably be looking at it in the high 20's to low 30's.

I'm not a fan of the look, to be honest. I can't help with a value, I'm afraid, but I expect the modifications would restrict the number of potential buyers. Generally speaking, originality is King when it comes to Porsches. Gemballa is an acquired taste IMO, and not for me.

You can spend a lot of money adding parts to these cars, but when it comes to resale, do not expect the car to be worth much more. Carreras like to be driven. The fact that this car has sat most of its life would be a turn off for me. Given todays market and the current economy, I would estimate the car is worth from $21,000 to about $27,000.
