Hi all! Just curious on the thoughts of other owners of the base model Cayenne. I'm contemplating trading in my MY00 Boxster and selling my '88 Silverado to acquire an MY04 or 05 Cayenne. I love my Boxster and it's a blast to drive, but it's just too impractical for where I'm at in my life right now. The truck is just old and about to the point of automotive suicide. So, I just want to hear some reviews on the base model Cayenne or if I would be better off searching for a newer Silverado. Any suggestions/information would be greatly appreciated :) I don't normally scan the Cayenne threads, but I'll check back every so often. Feel free to PM me your story. Thanks all, hope to hear some good things!

I'm not a Cayenne owner but I would be very hesitant to buy an 04 or 05 model. From what I have read here they have a lot of issues that will burn a hole in your wallet. If you can go for 06 or newer....

Good luck and be patient..

I have an '04 S -- the primary issues are well known (drive shaft, coolant pipes, coils, etc.) and can be resolved. Once resolved these vehicles are fine. Add a few $k to your after-purchse budget and you'll be set. I purchased mine used under CPO and the majority of the issues were resolved or had already been replaced prior to the CPO-certification. Overall a great vehicle. I've added roof rails, clear side lights, replaced the battery, tires and other basic stuff. Mine had all the options I wanted and also what I did not want.

Love the vehicle overall. It sucks a lot of gas and goes through tires but you know what you're getting into so this should not be a surprise. They are amazing handlers, track beautifully through rain and snow and are safe and stable.

But yes, if you have the budget, newer may be better. I happen to prefer the headlight design on the 9PA much more than the 9PA1 and am happy with the purchase.

That's the kind of information I'm looking for, thanks Phil!
