Tiptronic now starting in first gear

Recommended Posts

2006 C2, I recall when I first got it and the year and a half since, the tip trans would always start in 2nd from a stop. Now it seems to start from 1st. Specifically when I shift out of park. Is this normal and have I just not noticed it before? Or should it always start from 2nd? Does having the A/C turned off/on have anything to do with it. I've driven it through summer and winter temperatures and I've never noticed it until recently so I would say trans oil temperature wouldn't be a factor. It shifts fine up and down and the lever is not difficult to move, but for everyday driving I would prefer it starting in 2nd. Thanks.

Depending on engine temperature, the transmission can start in first gear and hold higher shift points to aid in bringing the catalytic convertors up to temp in an attempt to reduce emissions. When the engine is at operating temp does it still start in first gear??
