no boost gauge

2001 996 turbo.

I was messing around in the durametric 6 software and couldn't get anything to activate on the instrument cluster. when I exited and started the car I noticed I lost my boost gauge. I called Durametric, then sent them a logging of the trouble. They said I should be using the K21 instrument cluster. I tried the K21 and It worked, problem is I still have no boost gauge, I can't get it to read on the bottom of the gauge and it isn't on the selections for the upper gauge. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

Joel , just went to play with version 5 and there is nothing to do with the instrument cluster except to erase a fault if there is any. But version 6 got more option, but you probably know about it, and I saw a command option and enable option for the on board computer. Did you try it?

I went to 996- ME78-ABS5.7- K21- and instrument cluster- command- enable or disable OBC.....

Do you have all the other choice when you select them with the operating lever for the computer, outside temp, mileage, average speed etc ?

Also in the "set" menu of your OBC do you still have the choice to show the boost on the upper or lower display or "boost" completely disappear????

In the set menu you can reset all the display. Page 83 owners manual....

I have all the options when I operate the left lever down, outside temp, miles till empty, average speed but no boost pressure. I went to the selections for the upper display, boost isn't even there to choose from. Looks like I will call Durametric tomorrow for some more help. If I get this fixed I'm not going to use version 6 until version 7 beta is out. I tried the onboard computer enable and disable, I'm wondering if that is what killed my boost.

If you are desperate may be you should try to unplug and plug the boost/temp sensor. The location is shown on this picture....

I just tried it. when disconnected it runs bad with no check engine light. reconnected it runs good but boost still missing. thanks, if you come up with anything else let me know.

A good reset of the cluster by removing fuses E1, B1, and B10 (radio code needed but not sure).... I am in the wiring diagrams and I am surprised to see the boost pressure and boost air temp are feeded to the DME (ECU) and not directly to the instrument cluster....

I removed b1, b10 and e1. about 5 min. no change. now i have to figure out how to adjust my clock, just kidding.

It sound stupid but do you have the oil level indication still working. I'm asking to know if a link between the DME (ECU) and the cluster is broken. Because all the other info from the OBC like temperature, average speed, fuel, are sent directly to the cluster or are calculated by the cluster....

Joel. Did you seethe new version of Durametric got a fix for the boost gauge? Version 6.1.0.7 BETA "In this version, a problem with the OBC enable and boost gauge on the 996TT is resolved. An option to re-enable the boost gauge on these models is included with this release. ". Did it work?

Jp, Thanks for the heads up. I was in e-mail contact with Durametric and they were suppose to notify me by e-mail when they had the issue resolved. I guess they must have gotten busy. I will try any download the update and try it tonight.

I tried the new software update and still no boost gauge. When I went to activate the gauge it said " not a 996 instrument panel", I sent a file back to Durametric and they said they would still work on it.

After working with Durametric, I now have a boost gauge. I highly recommend Durametric, they stuck with the problem until they found a solution.

Excellent news, but come on, you know the Renntech score tell us all what was the problem and how did you fix it.

All I know is that when I used the Durametric software the first time it "coded" my instrument cluster to a non turbo. I contacted Durametric and they said they would work on it. They came up with a new software revision that "coded" the 996 turbo cluster with a boost gauge. When I went to use the new software it said that my instrument cluster was not a 996 cluster. I e-mailed Durametric and sent them a logging of the computer clearing fault codes and trying to activate the boost gauge. After several weeks they sent some new software that ignored the kind of instrument cluster I have and loaded the boost gauge. I really didn't have anything to do with the fix, it was all the work of the pros at Durametric.
