Picking up 08 4S on Friday, want PSE installed, how much?

Recommended Posts

Hello to all in this forum. I am a new member but have been reading many posts for the last few weeks to familiarize myself with the 4S I am picking up on Friday. It's a low milage black 08 with tan interior certified pre owned with 1.5 years remaining on the factory warranty and an additional 2 years because it's CPO.

I would very much like to have the dealer install the Porsche sport exhaust before I pick it up but was quoted $3,700 for the parts including the switch and about 8 hours for the install at $150 per hour. Sounds crazy to me! I would do it for maybe $3,000-$3,200, am I dreaming? Am I getting ripped off?

Should they be giving me some sort of discount because I am buying the car from them? I am located in White Plains, NY and the dealer is in Connecticut.

I sold my low milage '86 Turbo which I owned for the past 15 years last November and miss it. I had the B&B exhaust on it which had a nice note and while I think the 4S is a beautiful car, it's a bit quiet for me. I also want the option of making it quiet when my wife is in the car.

Is there another dealer in the New York, Connecticut area anyone can recommend?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John

Way too high IMHO.

I found a used PSE and all it's wiring harness for my 2005 997S and installed it myself. If you're handy around cars/garages it's a pretty simple job. The muffler(s) install is very straightforward. The switch install, depending what method you choose, is 'difficult' just because it's tough working in the cabin and routing the wiring and such.

Check out some indy garages, search the various Porsche forums for info and of course try to get the best price from Porsche dealers/shops. You might look at the 'PSE' that has a wireless approach to the 'quiet/loud' vacuum solenoid. That little feature eliminates the cabin wiring. Here's the link: http://www.cargraphi...o,article,6351/. Unfortunately the USD is so weak that the price maybe higher than the dealer charges.

ps. Congrats on you new 4S. You'll find it so much more 'refined' compared to your '86 Turbo. Might not be as exciting to drive but it's got a lot going for it.
