PCM 2.1 SW 4.0 and 08.2009 or 07.2010

Recommended Posts

I have just taken delivery of a 2008 987 which is absolutely fantastic! Loads better than my '99 986!

The car has the PCM 2.1 system with version 4.0 software and the Bose Amp (full details below). My questions are:

If I install a 08.2009 or 07.2010 disk will this upgrade any of the software and stop my current 05.2007 disk from working?

I believe there is SW 4.1 - what does this add/fix?

From what I have read I believe I don't need the update CDs 1 and 2 because I am already on Level C software.

Any tips greatfully received.

I just bought a MY2007 Cayman S with PCM2.1 Version 4.0. The 08.2009 disk worked without any issues at all. It did say "Updating System" when I inserted it, which took a couple of minutes. That was the European map disk, by the way.

I wasn't aware of a 07.2010 disk - is this a US disk?

I don't think it is a US disk. It was on eBay awhile ago. Unfortunately I had a '99 986 at the time so didnt buy it as I didnt know when I would be getting into a 987.

When I bought mine I tried to negotiate a new disk, but failed. However I think he said 2011 was the latest.

You dont need to update the PCM software , only the Navigation software. This is done as part of loading the navigation DVD . The only time a separate disc is required is when the PCM or navigation software is pre level C ie the map DVD originally is 2006 or earlier.

Thanks everyone. I did the update requested when I inserted the disk and all is working well. I haven't noticed any differences yet but there are a few roads around me that the sat nav used to think were a field. Hopefully next time I drive on them it will recognise where i am!
