Rattle from tiptronic during idle in position D or R

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have an intermittent noise (rattle) coming from the tiptronic during idle in position D or R, I lifted the car, engaged a gear, and noticed that the noise is coming from where the transmission is connected to the motor, it's a metal noise, not very loud and it's the same noise you could ear with a loose heat shield. I think that I always had this rattle but maybe now it's a little bit louder...

The question is, is that normal?

P.S. in N or P position I have no problems, the engine just run fine, i change the engine filter and oil every 5000 miles with a 5W40, I had my transmission serviced 30.000 miles ago.

thanks!!

Very difficult to diagnose noises via the net but a gearbox/engine rattle is not considered normal. Inspect all mounts and the torque convertor drive flex plate which can crack but honestly I have never seen it happen on a Porsche.

In my opinion this noise could be coming from the tiptronic oil pump with normal wear, should I just wait for the worst? or can I do something to prevent any future problem? Anyway I'm considering to have IMS and RMS service...

Update:

I had my torque converter changed with a new ZF original part, the IMS bearing update (just in case), new RMS. I had to pull down the motor and the tranny to do that and some other general maintenance

No more issue at all, it's like to have a new car! No more noise!

Total labor and parts costs: 4.000 € (5.200 $)
