I will be needing new tires in a few months and was wondering if the monitors on each rim have batteries that can be replaced or do you have to replace the whole unit if and when it malfunctions?

The batteries cannot be replaced; and shop around for the new sensors, they can be pricey...........usually a bit north of $110 each.. :eek:

Thanks JFP. I recall seeing someone suggest Sunset Porsche for these units at about $110.00+ each or so. I just wasn't sure if batteries could be changed but now I know.

One more question on the monitors and does anyone have any experience with how long the units might last on average? Are they like the car battery and possibly last for five years if lucky?

Depends upon many factors, realistically about 4-6 years is typical.

My tpms sensors are done. I am going to ask the dealer to disable the tpms function on my 2006 C4S. Is there any reason I should not ask them to do it? The cost in Canada is a little over $200 per unit tax included at the dealer. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Not sure if the dealer in Canada will do that. I believe here in the USA it cannot be done because of it is a safety item that was built into the car by the factory. I once tried to have my BMW units disabled and this is what the dealer told me. FWIW.

Unfortunately, the TPMS is a federally mandated safety equipment item, like seat belt warning systems and air bags. Dealers here do not want to get involved and accept the liability for disabling them.

Interesting. I am picking my ar tomorrow and will get back to everyone about the deler and disabling the tpms. It remains to be seen, stand by.

Mine lasted 5 years, cold climate seems to kill them faster.

It is done. Dealer deactivate the tpms, I am happy, I checked my pressure weekly anyway.no need to spend $800.

Interesting! Laws must be different in USA vs Canada. Glad you got your issue resolved.

Well, I think that as long as I check my pressure every week, spending this money for tpms sensors is a major cash grab and I am happy I don't have it anymore. Thanks for your feedback and input everyone.

If you have a Durametric you can check the remaining months of life on the sensors. I just did it today and I have an August 06 build 07S and my remaining battery life on the sensors are 19 months on one and the other three are 22 months. So for mine it looks like the sensors will last about 7-8 years.
