DE extinguisher wall mount

Recommended Posts

I'm going for my first DE session next month and setting up my '99 Boxster with a Halon extinguisher. I know about the passanger seat bracket but would like to put the extinguisher a little closer while making it completely removable for off track driving. I'm thinking about mounting the standard holder between the seats backs on standoffs. I can then unbolt and push plastic caps in the standoff holes.

Has anyone seen or tried this?

Thanks,

Rich

1) I wouldn't do it. Personally, I am nervous about mounting a heavy object high in the car where it could fly around in an emergency. I created a homemade bracket for under my seat for about $10 http://blueturban.com/auto/photos_e1.html

2) Almost everyone requires METAL/METAL contact for the fire extinguisher mount. You would have to remove the carpeting behind the seats each time you mounted this for a track day. Removing the carpeting is fairly quick (5 minutes?). It makes the interior louder and gives a racing, aggressive 'bad girl' look to the interior.

2b) attaching to the rollbars might also qualify as metal to metal contact if you remove the rollbar padding. Since I remove the 2 outboard sections of the rollbar padding to install the BK anyway, removing the small center section of padding would look OK. This would allow you to conceal the holes for mounting the extinguisher bracket behind the padding, but would require drilling the rollbar. Drilling the rollbar might raise safety concerns. Clamping metal to metal around the rollbar is not recommended as you would scratch the paint.

My 2 cents - your choices may vary.
