Convertible top not working with switch

Today I went to take a ride in my 1999 996 and the top would not work. I checked the latch and had the parking brake up. No luck opening top. I found on the forum that I could open and close top with key and door lock. Well that worked fine but the switch does not work. When I press the switch to open the top I hear 2 clicks and then nothing. Once I let go of the switch and try agin I hear the 2 click and nothing else. HELP!!!

Numerous reasons....but I will give you 2 clues and do a search in this forum......this has benn discussed enough times...

1.- When parking brake is up....is the light on the dashboard on?

2.- Does the clamshell move up/down?
