burnt smell due to coils failure and flashing CEL?

Recommended Posts

i got the CEL (not flashing) and a bit of burnt smell when i drove for about 2-3 miles (i can smell from outside but stronger when i turned on the a/c).. went to autozone and got these codes: P0300, P0352, P0302.
(after 10 days) when i started the car this morning and turned on the a/c the CEL started flashing.. when i turned the a/c off, the CEL stayed lit (not flashing).. i took the car in for service today but drove the car there (about 31 miles drive) and it still smell burnt (now really strong)
later in the afternoon, the SA called and he said a wire/connector burned (cylinder 3?) and it'll cost me about $360 for repair.. he mentioned it was because of the faulty coils and it was good i didn't drive it for long periods after the CEL as it might have caused more serious problems (so these things could cause fires??).. have anyone here got this issue together with the failing coils?
