Chip'ping a 1999 C2

Recommended Posts

Folks, has anybody had their C2 (3.4 liter) flashed by Akkurat in Menlo Park and if so, what where the cost and how many additional HP are supposed to be produced as a result?? Any comments good or bad??

I have an '03 C2 so this doesn't exactly answer your question...

Akkurat uses GIAC software (web site) and the GIAC site has HP and torque info.

I had my C2 flashed with the GIAC software by an installer other than Akkurat but it should be the same. Just about everyone recommends combining the software upgrade with a cold air intake but I did only the software. Here's my experience:

- Minus: No noticeable increase in torque/HP

- Minus: Reduced mileage by 2.5 mpg

- Minus: Rougher at idle

- Plus: Nearly eliminated the variocam "stutter" that occurs around 3,500 RPM

For me, it wasn't really worth it.

Heya folks, just a few things in terms of food for thought. Having flashed many 996s, 3.4Ls and 3.6Ls I do know that the difference in HP/TQ is less on the 3.6Ls but more noticeable (and a larger increase) on the 3.4Ls. You get about 24Hp out of the 3.4L. Exhaust won't give you anything really other than extra sound and an intake will give you about 8HP or so. The 3.6Ls don't really have much left in them in terms of headroom for tuning unfortunately:(

Sharkster, thanks. As I have a 3.4L that would work for me. Have you heard of any problems resulting of this flashing? Like not passing the California SMOG test ??

Hi Harry,

No smog issues so you're good there... However since it's now so simple to flash and flash back to stock (that's free) before smog you can always be stock for a day. However the cars we did last year with the old soldering method pass anyway.

The supercharger kits we do are different- smog is still an issue:(
