Bought an 06 S about 4 months ago and absolutely love it, had the coolant pipes replaced after covering the poor person behind me in water and coolant when the pipes burst. I am now experiencing a whistling/ screeching noise when doing more than about 20 mph after about 15 to 20 minutes of driving, as if when getting to a certain temp. Almost like a metallic noise, but completely stops when the car is not moving.

Done the usual checks, fluids, pads etc. but no expert. Any thoughts on when this could be? Wheel bearing? Power steering issue? Or (hopefully not) drive shaft? Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, there is no crunching or grinding sounds, just the high pitched whistle, like a old kettle on the stove.

It comes and goes, drove for about 1/2 an hour today and only made the sound

for a few seconds, but usually more frequent.

Is the sound coming from the engine compartment? I had something similar on an 04 where the power steering pulley was slipping against the serpentine belt. The new pulley is plastic. No more sound. This happened anywhere above 5mph.

Thanks rpcc, it is hard to tell, first thought it was coming from the passenger side footwell, but would seem to be coming

from behind the centre console, behind the sat nav, stereo area.

I will have to get it looked at, but will try the pulley first, I have just noticed a quiet squeaking noise when turning the steering wheel when parking and at slow speed. Thanks for the info, hopefully this will solve the problem.
