Power Window Rewire?

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to this list. I have recently purchased a 98 Boxster base model with Tiptronic.

The power windows do not work with the console switches. They do go down slightly when the doors are open and back up when they are closed, but that is the extent of the movement. They do not move when the top is going down.

I have done extensive troubleshooting on this problem including:

tracing all wires

checking both door connectors

replacement of relay 14/15

removal of alarm CLU, (it was dry) use of isopropyl alcohol to displace moisture and use of deoxit on all connections

testing of both switches

I have come to the possible conclusion that I probably have a faulty CLU.

I have two questions which I need help with:

Does anyone know what signal the alarm CLU applies to the power window motors, I believe it's the Ye/Gr wire to pin 2 on the motors? Is it conceivable to disconnect the CLU and rewire the motors to work without the signal from the CLU? Will everything else still work off the alarm CLU?

If I purchase a used CLU along with the key, transponder and engine ECU that goes with it has anyone had success in replacement with used units? Do I also need the Transmission ECU?

Thank you for any help or advice you can give me.

Hi;

I own a 2000 Boxster S that I bought new.  I only drive it when the weather's nice so it only has 28,000 miles on the clock but the windows failed in the exact manner that you experienced.

I have owned at least one Porsche for every day of the last 36 years, and I am no slouch mechanically but this problem has me stumped and I don't want to start replacing $$$ parts without as much info as possible.

I posted this question directly to the forum as well, but I thought I'd also ask you directly if you found any solution to your problem  How did you resolve it?   Many thanks for the help.  By the way, I'm surprised that you didn't get some responses to your posting, I've found the guys on this forum to be very helpful in the past.

thanks again,

Rob
