Water temp.gauge flashing

Recommended Posts

I have already read the whole topic posted on 5 april 2004,but this didn't exactly solve the problem. The car is 996 99'model and we have changed the following parts to solve the problem.

1.coolant tank code (996 106 14756)

2.coolant cap (01)

3.water level sensor

The radiator fans work correctly,no leaks ,no overheating.

The engine compartment fan seems to work for a few seconds ,either when the engine works, either when it is turned off.

The light flashes only when the engine reaches the normal working temp.and you drive the car in traffic.

A.Could it be from the engine compartment temp.sensor not working properly?

B.If yes, where exactly this sensor is located?

C.Could it be something else?

You might have air in the cooling system. Happened to me right after I bought the car. Have you ever flushed the system. Should have been done at least once by now. It will clear out any clogs there may be. The fan on the trunk should not run ever, unless the engine compartment is extremely hot. The sensor is located on bank 2 (passenger side) on the top of the engine between the back 2 intake runs. It's hard to see it, but you can find it by feel. When you disconnect the wire to this sensor, (engine key on) the fan should immediately start.

How is the temperature when the light comes on?

The temp.when the lights starts flashing is around 96-99 celsius, from monitoring with scan tool. The system was flushed once when the water tank was replaced about a month ago.

But,if we have air in the system(due to bad flush) it should overheat in a month, shouldn't it?

Based on my experience, the water pump is the culprit.

you need to check the water pump. There should be some coolant leaks.

It might drop on the serentine belt.

If you keep driving without fixing it, eventually,

the amount of coolant leak will increase. As a result,

you will see alot of smoke coming out from your engine (coolant leaking).

Hope that is help :D

I will have some careful checks and try to solve the problem.

What comfuses me about what you said,is that i didn't add any coolant during a month. If i had a leak,it would need some water during this period,i suppose.
