Remove scratches on clear coat

Recommended Posts

I found a long fine scratch on my car. It is not that noticeable. The scratch only appear on the clear coat and not deep to the paint. Can someone tell me the best way to handle it? Thanks.

Start with wax or polish. Use lots of elbow grease, it's gentle on the paint but not abrasive enough to remove much.

If not removed, use Scratch X or scratch remover from Zaino. Apply liberally.

I'd not use rubbing compound as it's too harsh for clear coat.

Go to the following site properautocare.com they have detailed descriptions of how to DIY repair of scratches. I found the site this weekend and found that it had a wealth of knowledge of how remove scratches and swirl marks. There is also a great article on an interview with several senior German car guys where they revealed the chemistry of the german clearcoats and recommended ways to fix minor scratches. I am not affiliated with them but I did purchase some stuff from them after reading the info they had and the various product recommendations. Good Luck!!
