Thinking about spacers and lowering...

Recommended Posts

I'm considering adding wheel spacers to my 1998 996 tiptronic s, as well as lowering springs, for cosmetic reasons as much as anything else.

Has anyone done either mod (if so, any photos?), and what is the general consensus with regards acceptable spacer thickness and lowering height?

I saw an older 996 going down the freeway the other day, and compared to my car, it looked like it could really use spacers. The wheels were so tucked into the wheel well it looked unsporty.

I have 10x18 on the rear with an effective offset of about 54mm, and I think it looks pretty good. I could probably use a 5mm spacer in the front to be perfectly balanced. My wheel placement looks about the same as a GT3's.

Here's a pic...
