Jumping from domestic to Porsche newbie

I am looking to buy a 2012 Carrera S with 8000 miles. It is a certified car. I understand oil changes can be quite expensive. What other expenses I should be aware of with a porsche?

Serpentine belt replacement eventually, air filters. Brake service (new fluid every 2 years). In Dubai I can keep extending the warranty which covers pretty much everything else (this year a coolant cap, some valves in the cooling system, and a cup holder repair under warranty). Oh and tires. Compared to my M car it’s got a lot let plastic bits so should bode well for longevity. Last point is forget about it as a DYI car. Taking the bumper off to get to the engine isn’t conducive to tinkering.

 

Mine is a 2012 CS with 47000 miles. Added a duck tale and GTS front spoiler as a hommage to older 911 cars.

Keep in mind Porsche always recommends replacing brake discs any time you replaced the brake pads.  A lot of new Porsche owners are taken by surprise when they go in for low pad warnings and are given a $1500+ estimate for only one axle.

 

Make sure you drive the car as it is intended. You can avoid a lot of future problems by regularly heat-cycling the engine. Since it is a direct-injected engine, you can make sure your valves stay clean by running the full RPM and load ranges frequently.

 

Your tires will appreciate high-g maneuvers, as this levels out the suspension under load and evens out the wear across the tread face.  

 

If you do not drive a minimum of 2 hours a week, get yourself a battery voltage maintainer.

 Martini , could you expound on "Heat cycling the engine " please ? Do you mean like "drive it like you stole it " LOL ? In other words rev up to the red line ? Please xplain ? Thanks Dave
