997 2008 911 TT airbag light code/fault 8009 - Help!

Battery died and I replaced the battery. I transitioned it from a dying battery to a healthy battery with a 12V bridge (done at battery shop). I thought everything was fine (no obvious large voltage spikes, or even loss of power (time, etc was still working when new battery installed).

 

When I started driving it the next time I noticed an airbag light.  I used Carly for Porsche OBD / ipad app which pulled 5 bad codes (mostly expected after battery weirdness - PSM, etc) and I cleared all the codes.

 

The only code remaining is 8009 (or 008009, "internal GR92) which comes out as passenger door fault.

 

I've searched the forums and this either means passenger seat belt pre-tensioner or airbag sensor but I'm not sure.

 

Have tried multiple full battery resets and tried multiple times clearing the code but it returns w/airbag light on.

 

Options I've considered but not performed are:

-durametric scanner - not purchased because >$300 and my current scanner clears all the other porsche specific codes

-taking to dealer - same as above but also likely expensive

-unplugging seatbelt / airbag, reset car w/items UNPLUGGED then disconnect battery and replug them in (haven't had time)

-reset window up / down was suggested on another forum, likely the wrong light but car is parked across town and haven't had time and low likelyhood it will work

 

Any input / help would be appreciated!

You can't reset an airbag code until the fault is fixed.

 

Fault 8009 Driver's belt pretensioner

 

Possible fault causes:
- Short circuit to B+/ground/between lines or open circuit in the lines
- Connection with other ignition circuit
- Driver's belt tensioner faulty
- POSIP triggering unit faulty

Are you sure driver’s side?  Everything I’ve seen says passenger’s side.

If it is 8009 then I think the Porsche service manual is correct.

What I posted is what is in the manual - possible causes - period.

A PIWIS diagnostic tester may tell you more - or the expensive swap out components.
