Beep Warning sounds when Locking

Hi All,

I need your help again!

My 1998 Boxster started to sound a "short beep warning" when I do the remote locking. The Owner's Manual describes that this "short beep warning" sounds if the passenger's door, hoods, convertible-top compartment cover or the oddments tray are not completely closed.

I have checked all these items visually and they seems to be closed properly but the beep does not go away. How can I trouble shoot this problem ? Is there a way to read out the error code that may show which door/covers/hoods is not closed ?

Any of your advices will be appreciated.

You can readout the error code with a PST2 or PIWIS tester. Chances are it is a bad microswitch on the front trunk (a known problem which there is a TSB for), or oddments tray microswitch or the rear trunk microswitch.

Thanks for your guidance. I will check electrically on those points you have mentioned. I am sure one of these micro-switches is not closing. I also realize that I can use the "Auterra" ODBII Scan Tool that I purchased for other cars few years ago.

I'll be surprised if your Auterra OBD II scanner can read alarm codes. Most of the aftermarket scanners can only do DME codes.

You are right. I just tried out the Auterra Scan Tool today and it did not display any error codes.

I checked the front trunk hood micro-switch with the ohm meter and it does open the circuit when I close the latching mechanism by pushing with the screw driver.

I did the same test with the rear trunk hood and it's micro-switch opens the circuit when the hood closes.

I could not verify the micro-switch of the oddments tray lid by the ohm meter, but it did sound "click" when I push down the micro-switch lever. I assume this is a good switch.

I could not locate any micro-switches for the Convertible-top compartment cover and the passenger door. If you know where these switches are, could you please describe them for me ?

Where can I find the micro-switches for the "Convertible-top compartment cover" on my 1998 Boxster ? According to the Owner's Manual, this is one of 5 could cause the "Beep sound" if not closed properly when locking the car.

If you know where the micro-switch is, could you please describe it for me ?

I got the "Short Beep" sound problem fixed. In the Alarm System section of the Owner's Manual lists the Radio as one of the component that monitors when the alarm is armed. On the other hand, the Central Locking section of the Owner's Manual does not include the Radio as monitored item. From this information, I realized that I made a connection of the un-plugged Quick Connect/Disconnect Receptacle on the brown wire to the Quick Connect/Disconnect Tab on the sheet metal sleeve where the radio gets slide in assuming that it must have came off when I pulled the radio out first time. Ironically, the Receptacle and Tab were just right in the same area when I looked inside of the space where the radio came out.

Now, I disconnected this Receptacle from the Tab and installed the radio back in and the problem went away.... :clapping:

I still don't know why there is unused Quick Connect/Disconnect Receptacle in behind the radio compartment. <_<

What kind of fool am I ?
