Stereo Replacement Wiring Info

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

New Porsche owner here 🙂

Got myself a 2001 Boxter S in speed yellow with 31k miles, super excited!!

First project will be to replace the CDR-220 with a new aftermarket head-unit so i can use appleplay etc.

My Porsche appears to have the factory Amp and the Door Speakers.

I purchased the new radio, wiring harness (Metra 70-1787), dash kit, USB input for carplay, and the antenna adaptor but was wondering about the wiring from the aftermarket radio to the harness.

In the CDR-220 i see a yellow plug and a black plug. (pictures attached)

Is it just a matter of matching up the wire colors on both the new head unit adaptor with the wiring harness? Are there any gotchas that i need to watch out for?
Sorry, complete noob here with wiring and just looking for some basic advice.

Thanks all

Thanks Duster! I will give this a shot tomorrow 🙂 Looks like the big issue is the swap between the red and yellow wires which i will do for the harness to the stereo wiring. Phew glad you shared this.

Success! I was able to wire up the new stereo and everything is working 🙂 Next Is to dremel out the dash tomorrow. I'll post pics once completed.

Thanks again Duster, I don't think I will be adding a backup camera though!

Cheers
