Installing a car computer on my 997 cab...

Recommended Posts

Has anyone looked into installing a computer in their 997? I have a 997

Cabriolet that I got with no nav options other than a bose sound system.

I want to install a carputer that can (do at least top 3):

- Play mp3s, dvds, ...

- GPRS voice navigation

- internet (via bluetooth phone)

- Live TV

- Sat radio (down the line)

- Bluetooth phone module

- Radar detector integration (is it possible?) to provide complete hidden system

My biggest dillema is that I don't want to change the look of the car. Is there a way to change the LCD on the PCM and replace it with a touch screen (to control the PC) and change the input to toggle between the PCM and the PC?

If not, is there a way to remove the PCM and install a new 7" display instead in a reversible process (for resale)?

Has anyone looked into this? If so, I use PCs and Macs at home, what is the best integrated system out there? Is it drivesoft (HW and SW), or a specific type of PC with mediacar (looks dead) or DashPC?

Small update:

I've contacted drivesoft, and they said that they could:

1. Convert the 5.5 inch LCD in my PCM into a touchscreen

2. Possibly create an interface/switch for the PCM

Has anyone done anything like this? Do you know of anything that may not get this to work?
