PCM2 in 1999 996 Possbile?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to install the PCM2 in a 1999 996?  Has anyone attempted it?

I don't think he had a 1999 (I think it was a 2002), but a guy in the DC area installed a PCM2 system in a car that had no navigation system to start with. He said parts alone were about $3500.

I have PCM1 in my car, and my impression is that it is not worth spending that much money for the quality and sophistication of the Porsche navigation system. I'm not being harsh on Porsche alone, because I feel the same way about the Navigation system BMW put into my 2003 M5. The Japanese systems are much more functional.

That being said, I don't know if PCM2 is a huge improvement over PCM1.

I'd just go get one of the portable systems for 1/4-1/3 the cost -- and have the ability to take it with you to another car when the need arises.

Best wishes,

David
