Issue: AC Controls don’t come on/light up when car is on.

Background: Looking for some help diagnosing my 997S AC issues. I’ve searched the forum and haven’t been able to find anything on this particular issue. The car is a 2006 Carrera S. The car is a long-term project and has sat for the last 3 years. During that time its only been started to move it out of the way of other projects and I never thought to pay attention to the AC controls. Before it was put to the side, the car was completely repainted and as part of that I had almost completely disassembled the interior and reassembled it afterward. So it’s been about 3 years since the car was reassembled. Based on that, it seems probable that I might have missed something that needed to be reconnected.

Now that I’m back on the project, I’ve pulled the AC controls out and verified that the cables were connected, and also viewed the circuit board inside the unit and it appeared fine. I’ve also scanned the fault codes with a Durametric scanner and found the following fault codes:

P1610 - Air Conditioning Control Module, no communication

U0146 - Communication, gateway (CAN drive)

Does anyone know if the “control module” referenced by the P1610 code refers to the unit with the climate control buttons or if there is a separate control module somewhere in the car? I haven’t been able to find one by google searching.

Any advice on running down the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Russ
