Did A Test Drive

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I did a test drive with a Boxster this week. The drive is fantastic, but there a 3 things which bother me a bit. I am 1.8 hm and have rather long legs. This alone excluded the old model for me, as it was just not comfortable. I now still have to put the seat in the maximum position, but at least I can get under the wheel.

But in this position, I found the clutch pedal unusually hard to reach, much more than in any other car I have ever driven (except a BMW series 1). I have to fully extend my foot to get it down completely. This is a very strange effect and I found it rather tiring after 1 hour drive in heavy town traffic. To me, it feels like the gas pedal is at the right distance, but the clutch pedal is at least 3 to 5 cm too faraway from the driver. Did anyone else notice this and is there an easy way to change this?

The seat is comfortable, but it is too short, with no support for your upper leg, and it lacks lumbar support. The electrical seat option solves this, but at 1.500 Euro, this is a rather expensive solution.

Finally the motor noise. It is surely exciting during the first hour, but it is also extremely loud (at least 6 dB higher than in a Mercedes SLK for example). Listening to music at a normal level is difficult. Driving a long distance must be very tiring. A bit more insulation and a better exhaust would have made the car much more relaxing to drive.

If you are really 1.8 hm then you are too tall for the Boxster :)

I am over 2 m tall and I have no problems with the clutch. One thing that helps is to put the seat all of the way down (can be done with both power seats and manual seats). Adjusting the height of the seat changes the distance from the pedals in a way different from front-to-back adjustment.

I added lumbar support to my seats by pulling out the seat insert and shoving some foam in there. It took only about 5 minutes and helps a lot.
