In all the articles about the 997 model line up - there has been no mention of the Targa in any that I have read. The 996 Targa's did not sell in any great quantity - so maybe that is an indication of the comments made to you. With Cayman S, Panamera, new GT3/RS and Turbo models on the way, the Targa is perhaps orphaned.

A recent Motor Trend here in the US showed a photo of the new 997 Targa. The article suggested there would be about 10 new Porsche models by 2010.........the image of the Targa seemed to suggest it may be closer to production release..........talk to your dealer about it now!

I saw the same article geza refers too, and I was surprised. I had also previously heard--from multiple reliable sources--that there would be no more Targas. It will be interesting to see if they make one or not, since the production/sales figures for the 996 version were relatively low.

There will definitely be a 997 TARGA. The car is based on the C4 chassis and there will be a Targa 4 and a Targa 4S. The car will be introduced just after the Paris Motor Show (early October) on the European market and I suspect 2-3 month later in the US.

Actually the car is already in production and if you happen to be in Zuffenhausen you may be able to see some around the factory.

Some pics are available at www.rennteam.com in the 997 Thread. The car shown is a yellow targa with US specs (bumperette ....)
