Porsche sport exhaust variants

It seems that Porsche has 5 variants of the PSE for the 996, designated by the last two digits in the part number. The "00" series was for the 3.4 litre engine, and had smaller bypass pipes.

However, are there any differences in the other four, "01" through "04", and what would those differences be? Are they significant as to sound, performance and reliability?

The first small tube sport exhaust for the 996 that I am aware of was 000.044.200.08 (that is what is one my car). As far as I know the later larger tube sport exhausts were made by different companies to the same specs.

So the "01" to "04" parts numbers are more for designating different parts manufacturers?

I think so. Many times Porsche will change the part number when they add a new vendor. That way if they have problems they know who to turn to.

along those same lines................

i just bought a 2000 996 w/12k miles on it.

i have an 87 911 coupe presently for sale.

my question is, while the 996 is superior to the 87 in just about every way, i'm starting to miss the nice exhaust note of the earlier car.

while i do not want another loud car, i have an 83 sc race car for that, i would like an exhaust note that is just a bit sportier than my wife's audi.

any suggeestions?

I have the fabspeed mufflers on my '99 996. While I am very happy with the sound, there is some occassional resonance around 2300-2600 rpm which is around 60-65mph in 6th gear.
